Energy seems to be at the forefront of price inflation. Energy prices have surged to 11 times their normal levels on the energy market, as a crunch in gas supply , low wind speeds and power station closures have combined to pile on the pressure on Britain’s electricity grid.
Ireland too is facing some pressure on the grid too for the same reasons,as do other parts of Europe, with Spain experiencing the highest energy tariffs in the bloc. Heavy industrial users of energy are facing problems with the volatile price increases in the energy sector. Ireland halted power exports to Britain to prevent a shortage as energy prices surged across Europe.
We have all noted the doldrums of negligible wind this summer, which has hit renewable supplies of energy via the wind turbine network.
Transmission of power was halted on the Moyle interconnector from Northern Ireland to Scotland. Mutual Energy, which owns and operates the undersea cable, said flows had been stopped for “operational security reasons due to generation shortfall in the all-Ireland single electricity market.”
