Autumnal fruits were already making an appearance, with fungi galore popping up on forest floors in late August.
These were signs that we could expect more in mid-September, with plenty of ripe blackberries and pendulous rowan trees full of juicy -berry like fruit.
A spectacular autumnal display was also expected from trees this year as the rain and the sun mean that trees have been able to produce the sugars which create the colours in their leaves.
