Bord Na Móna has recorded profits of £22m last year as the company shifts its focus from traditional energy resources towards green and renewable energy for the sustainable future.
Sales at the company originally established to harvest the country’s peatlands were €324 million in 2020.
The company is backing renewable energy projects worth €1.6 billion between now and 2030. The company intends to create 885 new jobs over the next five years.
Peak peat extraction occurred just eight years ago in 2013 when the company harvested 6 million tonnes of peat.
