A tweet from E W Davies Farms Ltd, based in Essex, on the 25th of July highlighted the unexpected impacts from the recent weather the UK has been experiencing.
“ The severity of Tuesday’s hailstorm is now becoming tough reality as everyone try’s (sic) to salvage what’s left. Hybrid barley coming over the weighbridge less than 2t/ ha. The storm hit a big area with some farms being totally wiped out.”
The accompanying picture showed a leveled barley patch.
Elsewhere a comment indicates that one farm’s pea harvest had been wiped out.
Climate experts warn extreme weather has veered ‘off scale’ and fear and increase in severe events is exceeding current model’s predictions.
