Logistics firms have warned that chilled food shortages over the summer could be a Brexit phenomenon driven by a shortage of HGV drivers in the UK.
One firm, Logistics UK, said that 30 percent of their member firms were hunting for drivers.
“The real crisis for food supplies starts now,” said Shane Brennan , the chief executive of the Cold Chain Federation, which represents frozen and chilled transport, and warehousing firms.
Brennan said the shortage of workers was also being felt in packaging, production facilities and warehouses.
The inexorable forces generated by Brexit are beginning to be felt within the economies of these islands.
