Have you ever heard of the orange ping pong bat fungus? Stalker neither.
Apparently the table tennis bat-shaped fungus may be pushing native species out, according to researchers. Favolaschia calocera as it is scientifically named, discovered in Cornwall in 2021, has been categorised as an invasive species in the UK.
The fungus has now been found in 44 locations, most northerly so far in Wales at the Lynn Peninsula. It is thought to have arrived in England on either the wind, blowing from Spain or on a wooden pallet passing through British ports.
