New car sales in Ireland were down by 17.8 percent. Even though the figures are down, it wasn’t a complete washout as was expected.

In the UK car sales fell by 40 per cent in January. While electric and plug-in hybrid cars experienced strong growth, sales of petrol and diesel only models more than halved.
It was the worst start to the year for car sales since 1970 in the UK.
