Irish food and drink exports fell by 2 per cent in value last year.
The decline was less than was feared with the onset of Brexit changes, however next year's figures may show more in that regard. Bord Bia Chief Exec Tara Mc Carthy said the outlook was positive for 2021 and that exporters are reporting solid order volumes.
Horticulture and cereals exports increased by 8% to €221 million in 2020 with the UK being the core market. The primary constituents of this export mix are mushrooms, primary cereals and amenity horticulture. The value of mushroom exports rose by 14% to €115 million.
Alcohol exports were the biggest loser in this year's figures with volumes down by 19 per cent.
It isn't that surprising considering the extensive lockdowns in all the home markets, and especially with the extensive closure of watering holes throughout the previous pandemic-plagued year.
