In December 2000 which seems like a million years ago now, the mushroom industry was buzzing with news and views, and people hither and thither.
Back then though there were signs of the trends coming - mushroom shelving was beginning to predominate in the Irish mushroom industry. The euro was only newly launched and losing value against the dollar. Analysts were predicting peak oil by 2010, and mushroom nutriceuticals were making the news.
The anti-viral properties of mushrooms were also noted by Dr John Wilkinson of Middlesex University. The autumn of 2000 was declared the wettest since records began in 1766, plus ca change.
