Many world dictionary companies like Merriam -Webster, Oxford and Collins, are nominating their word of the year for 2020.
Most are pandemic themed, like lockdown, quarantine, vaccine or other related words. Stalker wonders why they don’t pick the portmanteau word Covid as their word of the year.
It is the word that will stick in our minds.
A bit like Brexit, it is an ugly word somehow, made up of two words jammed together. And how to pronounce it - some sound it with an ‘o’, some sound it with an ‘aw’.
Hopefully 2021 will bring a new set of upbeat words, and we can view the likes of covid and brexit in the rear view mirror.
