Some of the comparative numbers around the last decade in the Irish mushroom industry do make interesting reading.
The output figures are startling - with tonnages rising both in the Northern Ireland industry and the Republic of Ireland’s industry as growers numbers shrunk.
With a 25 per cent increase in tonnage over the 9 years from 2010 to 2019, from 54,493 tonnes to 68,285 tonnes, the Republic’s industry has a farmgate output value of €119.2 million.
For the north’s industry the tonnage produced has more than doubled from 2010 to 2019, from 16.3 thousand tonnes to 34.3 thousand tonnes. The value of output has gone from £19.7m to £55m in those nine years also.
The figures for the Republic Of Ireland came from DAFM, and the figures for Northern Ireland came from DAERA.
