A nature writer in the London times was writing recently of finding a very rare fungus in the woods - the Hydellum peckii, or bleeding tooth fungus.
It looks like it could be strawberries and cream which it is sometimes called, or also known as devil’s tooth.
The rare fungus is reputed to have anticoagulant and antibacterial properties and may also contain a chemical compound which may one day be used to help treat Alzheimers.
The scope of mycological treasures in our environment is as yet only scantily known.
