Despite their being a major summer heatwave in the UK, the overall sunshine level was only slightly above average.
In more northern climes, there didn’t seem to be much evidence of a heatwave at all. Met Éireann reported that all available monthly sunshine totals were below their long-term average in August 2020. With rainfall above average everywhere and temperature above average, the stormy weather that hit at the end of the month saw autumn arrive with a bang.
Thankfully a brief return to summer temperatures occurred in the middle of September - a little respite from the potential cold, dark winter ahead.
