Just as autumn hit us with a bang, so too Brexit landed back centre stage with a bang. Once again the protocols for dealing with the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic were thrust to centre stage, perhaps a diversionary tactic, as the British government was in full trade negotiation disruption mode as the final substantive round of talks began.
The complexities surrounding the border were always fertile ground for being the bargaining chip to rattle both sides of the Brexit argument, but the consensus is that larger trade and state aid issues are in play.
Now things are going to the wire once again, we can expect a ratcheting up of tensions all round.
The hope of a glorious deal that satisfies everyone’s needs seems very elusive at this point - but no doubt whatever happens it will be heralded as the best thing since Bojo took office.
