We all know it is hot in Death Valley in the USA, but this month a record high temperature of 54.4C hit the headlines.
The United States National Weather Service’s automated station at Furnace Creek, in California, recorded the extreme high on Sunday 16 August.
Some extreme weather watchers believe the most recent Death valley reading could – in time – be verified as the hottest ever reliably recorded on the planet.
