GENE EDIT
News that the upper house of government in the UK is looking at plans to legalise gene-editing in food crops, comes as no surprise. We already know that the CRISPR gene editing technology has been trialled in the production of mushrooms in the US. Perhaps more worrying is the idea that legislation would also open the door to potential gene-editing of animals. Stalker noticed this month that there was a report of some dodgy science happening around the use of gene editing techniques with human embryos. There is a point where we move from good science, to potentially very bad, in the field of genetic manipulation. Ethical considerations are paramount when dealing with this most powerful of scientific tools.
