The euro pound relationship stabilised a bit over the past month since the beginning of the crisis on world markets.
As we go to press the pound sterling regained some ground against the euro, now trading at around €1.15 for £1 on the foreign exchange market.
This rate is definitely more helpful for Irish mushroom growers selling into the UK. However it is still a bit away from even the €1.20 per £1 that was extant earlier in the year.
The continuing threat of a hard Brexit at the end of the year, with a no deal scenario still apparently possible is one factor holding the rate where it is.
Most analysts predict that the hardball statements emanating from the UK in relation to the Brexit talks, and the dismissal of any notion of an extension to the December 31st deadline, will come in for a readjustment as the year progresses.
