A quote attributed to the Russian revolutionary leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin has been popping up a lot lately. “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”
It seems very apt to sum up the last month. Things are moving rapidly in the battle to suppress the envisaged onslaught of Covid 19. One can see the structures of command economics coming into view in an effort to thwart the ravages of the virus through the public health system and the economy.
It’s early days yet. But there is hope that the worst of the outbreak can be slowed to allow time to shore up the health systems in the UK and Ireland, and all over the globe, and allow time to develop new ways to fight the virus.
It is also the community response that will slow the virus down, and every citizen, north and south, east and west, has it in their power to effect positive action against the spread. Folk in the mushroom industry are well acquainted with hygiene measures and barriers against disease spread.
Let's hope the bug gets the boot and life returns to some semblance of normal before too long.
In the meantime, stay safe and support each other as best we can.
