It is hard to predict what effect the viral outbreak of Co-vid 19 will have on the mushroom industry in Ireland and the UK.
The obvious problems would be with infection control and the possibility of workers being affected and supply being hampered.
But also the transport of produce and the markets and the supermarkets all will be areas where the supply chain can fall down.
Demand could drop if people are afraid or unable to go to shops, fearing contagion. Demand from the catering industry is obviously going to fall. Takeaways and delivery from restaurants at this point are still an option.
The ‘keep calm and carry on’ mantra that is emerging is probably the best advice.
Even trying to envisage what problems might arise can give rise to fearful actions and reactions.
