Plant biologist Ken Thompson was writing in press recently of the relationship between bees and fungi.

Interesting and complex as a topic it is, and it drew on new evidence to suggest that fungicides are linked to bee colony collapse and decline.

Fungicides are upsetting the vital bee-microbe symbiosis and it will require more research to identify all the mechanisms.

His latest book Darwin’s Most Wonderful Plants is available now in bookstores.
