With all that is now happening around the turning point that was fixed as Brexit day, March 29th, anything that is written one day, can become redundant the very next day.
Lurching from one Westminster vote to another, sterling flips up or flips down on the currency markets. No deal is off the table, or back on the table.
The publication of the tariff scheme for the no-deal scenario though caused quite a lot of outrage and dismay amongst business and political leaders in the UK and Ireland. It seemed like a smugglers charter had been launched by HM Government in the UK. Some were bemused, some askance.
Underlining it all though was the sense of half-baked ideas, severe under-preparation and down right desperation. These are strange days indeed.
We can rest assured that when the dust settles on the whole furore, there will be tales told of brinkmanship and barmy shenanigans. You couldn’t make it up. Will it be Brextension? There’s already a Brexodus of businesses to Dublin and other EU countries, apparently. There could be “Brexit the Musical” next.
