The CSO (Central Statistics Office) have published their advance estimate of agricultural income, indicating an 8.5% drop in 2002.
The CSO figures said that the operating surplus on Irish farms fell by 8.5 % before deductions for interest payments and land rental.
The IFA President, John Dillon said that the reduction taken with inflation was a decline in real terms of almost 13%. He also stated that the greatest cause of the reduction was low prices for produce.
Low prices for produce then are stinging farmers across the board, not only in the mushroom sector.
