There was a big article on the Irish mushroom industry in The Irish Times at the start of the month. The article also focussed on the new Northway facility being built in Cabragh Co Tyrone.
The new £25 million compost facility is nearing completion and the scale of the new enterprise - seven acres of concrete buildings the size of aeroplane hangars, clearly impressed the correspondent.
Northway’s Elaine Shaw clearly sees an opportunity arising from Brexit if Polish mushroom imports into the UK are stymied. But of course that would also mean that Irish mushroom imports into the UK would be affected too.
Northway’s turnover currently stands at £55m per year, one suspects with the new facility approaching operational status that the intention is that this will increase!
