Irish food and drink exports were down on their record high of 2017 by 4 per cent.
Different explanations were deployed to account for the dip, from unprecedented global volatility, involving political uncertainty i.e Brexit, to extreme weather events and continuing currency fluctuations impacting on competitiveness.
Still and all, over €12 billion of exports is no mean feat. 2019 might have all the same ingredients for instability, uncertainty, etc, with some added relish. We’ll see soon enough how it all pans out in the year ahead.
