Fatalities in the workplace in Ireland fell to a 37 year low last year.

In the farming sector, which unfortunately has one of the worst track records for fatalities, there was a decline of 40 % in fatal accidents.

That is very welcome news.

Saying that though, there were 15 deaths in the farming sector last year.

Overall 37 people lost their lives  in work-related accidents in 2018.

That figure is obscenely high and utterly depressing.

Let’s hope the health and safety message goes from strength to strength this year. Even one death in the workplace is too many.
