With stories of people eating gold-leaf steak hitting headlines this month, there was a rundown of the most expensive dishes available to well-heeled gastronomes.

Truffle topped pizza was mentioned, coming in at a snip at €1,800 - at least that was for the whole pizza not just a slice. In Malta you can get the pizza at Margo Pizzeria, fashioned with white truffle, 24 carat gold leaf and buffalo mozzarella. The truffle arrives by courier and has to be ordered a week in advance. Domino’s would never taste the same if you’d sampled this.
