Stalker was reading about an intriguing journey by rail which is now a hot destination on the tourist trail.
It involves taking the new high speed train from Hong Kong to Ghuangzhou in China. Departing from West Kowloon (somewhere Stalker has always wanted to go) the journey takes 10 hours and costs Ł120 second class.
Once there the travel writer gets to see some sights.
They also visit “Guangzhou’s notorious Chinese medicine market, Qingping. It was grimly fascinating. Cardboard boxes of fish maw (swim bladders), scorpions and dried seahorses stood next to less controversial bags of glossy dates, mushrooms the size of car wheels and sacks of walnuts.”
With mushrooms like that, it’s certainly a must see for this fungiphile.
