Trawling back through The Mushroom People archive to November 1988 it is interesting to note that the front page was all about the fifty jobs being created at the Kernan Mushroom village near Benburb in Co. Tyrone. The shelf system with compost blocks in use at the new village was the Hensby shelf system.
Cut forward ten years to November 1998, and everything had changed - everything was now Dutch. The Dutch system of shelving had become the new gold standard for progressive mushroom enterprises in Ireland. The study of Dutch shelving and Dutch marketing systems was de rigueur at the time.
Moving forward to November 2008 Stalker noted that Leslie and Raymond Codd were nearing completion of their new ‘state of the art’ mushroom farm with 18 Dutch style panel growing rooms. How things have move on through the decades is truly fascinating.
