Stalker came across an interesting website where one can input local knowledge on placenames to help save it for posterity.
The Placenames Database of Ireland, which is archived at logainm.ie has a facility for people to log on and record minor topographical features in an area with their names.
Folk are encouraged to go on at meitheal.logainm.ie and record their neck of the woods, before the old lore about places maybe dies out.
One place with a strange whiff about it is Brantry in Co. Tyrone, a place where many’s a mushroom has been grown over the years - from the name An Bréantar ( from the word bréine, meaning stench or rottenness).
Researchers have no idea why the placename has such a foul-smelling connotation - one of the mysteries of our local lore.
All the mushroom folk that Stalker ever met from the Brantry have been a pleasure to be around in every sense!
