The pound rose slightly on the currency markets after the comments by the Chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier on the prospects of a Brexit deal.
Monsieur Barnier said that a deal was doable within eight weeks, if people were being realistic.
On the other side of the equation, the political and constitutional temperature in the UK seems to be rising, and the possibility of crises in both realms seems to be escalating.
Even if a deal was actually done within the eight weeks, there is no prospect that that would be the end of all the clamour.
