Bord Bia have produced a new report Food and Drink Supply Chain Logistics: Strategies for Success. Contained in it are predictions that Brexit could hit Irish food exports bound for the EU but travelling through Britain.
The mushroom sector will mostly avoid that pitfall as most of Irish mushrooms are bound for the British domestic market - but the whole prospect of delays and tariffs is already causing concern throughout the Irish food and drink sector.
If tariffs come in they could also hit finished products and raw materials imported by food producers from the UK, according to the report. Food for thought indeed.
