According to the UK media, research has found that 8 percent of suppliers felt that Asda “rarely” or “never” complied with rules laid down by the Grocery Code Adjudicator.
Tesco on the other hand was a top performer as 97 per cent of suppliers said it complied “mostly” or “consistently well” with the code.
Good treatment of suppliers by the major multiples is one of the areas that the agricultural sector needs in order to ensure farmers don’t get squeezed to breaking point.
Ireland does not yet have the equivalent of the UK’s Grocery Code Adjudicator, but it is regarded as a good idea among ag circles.
