The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK which will oversee the possible merger between supermarkets Sainsbury’s and Asda, has been told that the tie-up will raise prices.
The CMA launched a probe into the potential hook up last month and has received submissions which have raised concerns that fewer national players will lead to “higher prices and reduced choice, or loss of innovation within the supply of groceries.”
The treatment of suppliers is one of the major areas of concern.
It will be interesting to see if the mega-merger goes ahead or not.
