Stalker noted an interesting book review in the serious papers recently. The book is called Our Place by Mark Cocker.
The subtitle is Can we Save Britain's Wildlife Before It Is Too Late. Stalker knows it sounds slightly eco-panicky.
But the book raises some pertinent issues for all of us on the island of Ireland, as well as in Britain. We’ve noted the problem with the bees before, also the news that bird numbers are declining everywhere it seems. What about the moths?
Have you noticed that there is an absence of moths on your car windscreen while driving at dusk or in the night? Just another sign that insect life is also decreasing.
This book doesn’t sound alarmist, but it does convey the message that we do need to wake up to the destruction of Nature, the bio-system in which we all live.
