The presenter of the Channel 4 food series Food Unwrapped was waxing lyrical about the benefits of vitamin D enhanced mushrooms recently in the press.
Kate Quilton recounted the tale of a friend who had been feeling inexplicably awful: “His limbs were really heavy and his whole body was aching,” she recalled. “He was tested for all sorts, including cancer, and was beginning to think he had something really hideous.”
After a fortnight of tests, he was diagnosed with a lack of vitamin D. He added supplements to his diet and is now “absolutely fine” - She went on then to extol the virtues of a kind of super fungi, where “they essentially put mushrooms under a sunbed and the ultraviolet lights generate vitamin D in them. Usually labelled with ‘High Vitamin D’ stickers in supermarkets, they’re a bargain source of the vitamin” she added.
