Last month Stalker was banging on about wine, and not giving much of a fig for choosing specific wines for specific food. Well one is not alone. Apparently eight in ten people don’t bother to pair their wine.
In a study by the BBC’s latest Good Food Guide, 77 per cent of restaurant diners said they do not consider whether the wine might match the food. Women were particularly indifferent with 80 per cent saying they do not match wine and food, the survey of 2,000 people found.
It means food suggestions on supermarket wines - for example, “Rioja is best enjoyed with steak” - could become a thing of the past, as people are not paying attention.
