The cash for ash inquiry in Northern Ireland is set to begin on November 7th, 2017.
The state funded RHI scheme was set up up to incentivise businesses to shift to renewable energy sources by offering a proportion of the costs to run eco-friendly boilers.
Subsidy tariffs were set to high and without a cap the cost of the scheme to the public purse was going to be significantly more than was tolerable, hence the political fallout from the scheme.
With 880,000 pages of evidence to be examined, there’s been a slight delay in getting the inquiry to first base. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this review, chaired by retired Judge Patrick Coghlin.
