Extensive flooding in late August in Derry, Tyrone and Donegal once again held up the spectre of increasing disruption from global warming, caused by extreme weather events.
Chicken processor Moy Park confirmed that poultry farmers in Tyrone lost 55,000 chickens in the floods.
Dislocation caused by the floods was also extensive, with 500 homes in Donegal affected. With Roads closed and bridges swept away, the only upside was that there was no loss of life.
It was termed a once in one hundred year event, but as someone pointed out, these once in a hundred year events are now coming annually.
