We’re still on the lower slopes of the Brexit behemoth, and commentators are speculating away wildly about all the pitfalls and pratt falls yet to come. The headlines in bold in some newspapers leave one wondering how bad things can get in the world of what ifs and maybes.
‘If UK Leaves Custom Union a customs border is inevitable’, read the heading, and the economics expert continued:
“It is highly improbable that any special status deal would include the North's farms in the EU agricultural subsidy arrangements, which are currently responsible for most of the income of the North’s farmers.”
It would surely worry any farmer to read that, in the business pages of an Irish newspaper.. Who knows how the next few years are going to pan out?
