The 25th and 26th of May were absolute scorchers - with temperatures up to 26.1C recorded in the north of Ireland.
According to Met sources, temperatures like these come along once every 15 years or so. More normal temps for this time of year are 16C or 17C.
In the South, the month's highest temperature was reported at Mount Dillon, Co Roscommon on the 26th May with a temperature of 26.1 °C, while Malin Head, Co Donegal reported a highest maximum of 25.1°C on the 25th, its highest May temperature since the station opened in 1885.
The month began with a freezing snap with snow and hail, and ended in rain and mist, but at least we got a taste of summer in between. The month was drier than normal in most places too.
