Stalker was skimming a column on food myths and taboos which included a tip on mushrooms.
“The old idea that mushrooms are like sponges is rubbish - they’re 90 percent water already, and rinsing the outsides is going to make very little difference.
That said, the same goes for mushrooms as any other food you’d like to fry: dry them first, so they sauté rather than boil in the pan.” Of course that advice is moot when you’re microwaving!
Other tips included, don’t store tomatoes in the fridge, and peel bananas from the other end i.e. not from the stalk bit. Monkeys do it that way apparently!
