UK Ex PM David Cameron has said that Britain should settle its £50 Billion “divorce bill” before trade talks start over Brexit deal.
Teagasc director Gerry Boyle writes that even with an agreement on the terms of their “divorce” the UK and EU could fail to reach agreement on future trade terms.
With acrimony mounting after an unhappy “getting to know you dinner” with Prime Minister May and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier, along with EU president Jean Claude Juncker, the optics aren’t looking so hot at all for any aspect of the talks.
However once the UK General Election is out of the way we can expect more serious talks to commence and proceed with more coolness and clarity. The mandarins on both sides abhor instability, incivility and, most of all, chaos.
