New car sales have been going in opposite directions either side of the Irish border for the first quarter of the year.
In the South sales are down 8 percent - Brexit is cited as the main reason. In the UK sales are up 8.4 percent to March with a green car tax change being cited as the reason for the record high in new car sales.
The upswing in the UK and Northern Ireland figures is expected to be temporary, after the new vehicle excise duty rates came into effect on April 1.
