Stalker notes that the Irish Farmer’s Journal is reporting that Irish mushrooms sales into the UK have received a four percent bump in the winter months to date.
As usual there is acknowledged to be a seasonal lift in volumes of mushrooms sold - due to enhanced healthful activities undertaken by consumers in the first months of the year.
However they do also point out that the winter vegetable supply crunch emanating from continental Europe due to the bad weather also played a part in the sales boost.
The report said sales of mushrooms in the UK in January were up 4% in volume and 2% in value compared with January last year, outperforming the vegetable category as a whole.
