There was an alert put out in the USA this month for mushroom hunters to be on their guard.
Specifically it was for morel mushroom hunters to watch out for ticks while out foraging, in case they were bitten and contracted Lyme’s disease.
As Stalker already mentioned last autumn, there has been at least one case of a fungiphile laid low by the very same tick borne disease here in Ireland last year.
Perhaps when the hotter weather comes around again, and mushroom enthusiasts are out and about in woodland areas, a “Tick Aware” campaign or alert would not be out of order.
Such a campaign or alert for woodland areas with deer populations would certainly go a long way in helping people avoid this quite unpleasant disease.
