Stalker enjoyed the story of a newly developed piece of farm kit with Irish provenance, being feted in the UK and Ireland.
Three Irish entrepreneurs have developed a gizmo for alerting farmers as to when their cow is about to give birth.
The Moocall is a palm-sized sensor that attaches to the cow’s tail and detects contractions, informing the farmer on how long the animal has been calving. The gizmo has been used to safely deliver 150,000 calves in the UK and Ireland according to Vodafone.
The sensor is one of the new tech applications coming out of the Internet of Things (IoT). Hopes are that the sensor can cut calving mortality rates by 80 per cent. Now that is pretty savvy.
