There’s more consolidation within the mushroom sector in Ireland since the beginning of the year, as Walsh Mushrooms have taken over Tipperary based Golden Mushrooms.
Golden Mushrooms was founded by Michael and Marian Bergin and began operating outside the village of Golden in Co Tipperary in 1998. It grew to become a significant supplier of mushrooms into the Irish market. The company employed 90 people, a workforce that will continue working on in the new entity Walsh Mushrooms Golden Ltd. The company has achieved turnover of over €5m.
The takeover was featured very positively on the RTÉ news. One can catch the clip on the Walsh mushrooms website.
