The first ever case of shiitake flagellate dermatitis in Ireland was documented recently after a patient presented at University College Galway Hospital.
The condition, which causes the sufferer to break out in some very extreme rashes, was first documented in Japan in 1977.
The skin condition tends to remediate by itself after several weeks.
Generally cases happen after ingestion of raw or undercooked shiitake mushrooms. As ever, buyer beware.
