Once again as the bellwether of the economic climate, the new car sales in Ireland advanced all year by 18 per cent in the 10 months to October, then fell back last month, with slowing retail activity and uncertainty in global markets taking its toll.
Car sales are expected to slow down over the last few months of the year. Light commercial vehicles sales were down by 2 percent in October, and HGV registrations were down by 16 per cent in October, compared to the year previous. Although both are higher so far over the whole year.
We could well be in for a slowdown all round perhaps if we accept that these indicators are relevant.
