Autumnal news from the UK is that mushroom picking has been outlawed in the New Forest to protect the area’s fragile ecosystem. The Forestry Commission has imposed the policy so that no one will be allowed to take fungi from the national park site in Hampshire.
Professional or commercial foragers descend on the park in huge numbers and have previously flouted maximum pick weights for individuals, in search of ceps, chanterelles and morel mushrooms.
This new ban is to be reviewed at the end of the season.
